The Advocates Lounge – a snapshot of our Podcast journey so far
July 31, 2025
Since launching our podcast channel ‘The Advocates Lounge’ back in November last year we have received some amazing feedback, so thank you to all who took the time to watch the videos and offer your thoughts. We have now recorded and posted five episodes, starting with the very first one by Dan Edwards on Anticipatory Costs.
Dan was called to the bar in 1993 and specialises in all aspects of personal injury and clinical negligence. Dan was once again recognised in the recent 2025 publication of Chambers and Partners UK Bar and The Legal 500 legal directories for the eleventh year running.
As a friendly and forward-thinking multidisciplinary set that is committed to investing in and nurturing the next generation of talent at the Bar, our next podcast was delivered by Katherine and Jordan who talked us through their pupillage experience. This podcast was prepared specifically to help with pupil applications and was well received by future pupils who attended the Pupillage fair on Circuit.
Katherine was called to the bar in 2022 and practices exclusively in Family Law and Jordan was called to the Bar in 2021 and practices exclusively in Criminal Law. Both secured tenancy after successfully completing their specialist pupillage within Chambers.
Adam Mugliston brought us his take on the recent implementation of ‘The Employment Rights Bill 2024’
Adam was called to the bar in 2008 and has built a strong reputation with both claimant and defendant firms for being a tenacious and highly effective advocate with a formidable attention to detail. Adam specialises in the areas of personal injury, occupational disease, and employment law.
Next up was ‘Post Adoption Proceedings and Contact Orders’ by Stephen Thornton, which was followed with ‘The Expert’s Agenda’ by Jonathan Godfrey and ‘Trial witness statements in the Business & Property Courts’ by Thomas Parson’s-Munn, who made appearing behind a camera look like an everyday event.
Stephen is a highly sought after and respected member of our highly regarded family team within Chambers. Practising exclusively in Family Law Act and Children Act applications for several years during which he has become renowned for his knowledge of family law, his client care and providing realistic, pragmatic advice. Stephen accepts instructions to represent Local Authorities, Respondent parents, and children’s Guardian’s in equal measures, as well as acting for the Official Solicitor.
Jonathan specialises in Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury. He acts on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants. He has over 25 years’ experience and is an accredited advocacy trainer for the North Eastern Circuit and the Inner Temple and a visiting lecturer at the University of Law, based in Leeds.
Thomas’ practice encompasses all areas of employment law, as well as chancery and commercial, housing, and regulatory, whether undertaken in the County Courts or the High Court. His case load spans the full range of litigation, and he has appeared in both the Court of Appeal and appeal tribunals.
Dere Street were delighted to secure additional services from Andrea Thornton Photography for this new venture. Andrea had previously provided support to Dere Street with website photography but can also now share her considerable experience in commercial and professional videography.
Having showcased on her website some of the work for regular clients such as The Football Association, interior designers and personal trainers, Andrea has provided clear and professional advice to Chambers throughout this process, whether this be music and design or filming location and podcast delivery, Andrea has provided the needed guidance through all the stages of this journey.
We look forward to continuing our working relationship with Andrea on our new Podcasting platform. Please look out on ‘The Advocates Lounge’ going forward as we continue to record and publish new episodes over the coming months.
Watch out for our next episodes over the coming months presented by Eleanor Irons, Laura Dawson and Michael Cahilll.
If there is a specific topic or area of law that you feel you would benefit from that could be delivered through a podcast, then please do not hesitate to send us your suggestions here for consideration by our teams.
