Jonathan Godfrey

Jonathan specialises in Clinical Negligence and Personal Injury. He acts on behalf of both Claimants and Defendants. He has 25 years plus experience.

Jonathan is an accredited advocacy trainer for the North Eastern Circuit and the Inner Temple. He is a visiting lecturer at the University of Law, based in Leeds.

Clinical Negligence

Jonathan maintains a particular interest in Clinical Negligence work. He deals with the whole breadth of clinical negligence work, including cerebral palsy, cancer misdiagnosis , surgical mishap , medication administration and informed consent.

His many years of experience in clinical negligence work allows him to pinpoint and focus on the central issues in any given case.

Jonathan has a particular expertise in dealing with expert medical evidence. He not only deals with such matters in his day to day practice, but teaches medical consultants who wish to enter into , or expand the horizons of their medico-legal work. This gives him a valuable insight into the thought process adopted by expert medical witnesses. Jonathan also regularly speaks on legal issues to clinicians, most recently at the British Society of Orthopaedic Anaesthetists annual conference.

Jonathan regularly lectures to solicitors on medico-legal issues, and has written many articles on pertinent medical topics, including contributions to the AVMA medico-legal newsletter.

Personal Injury

Jonathan’s experience covers the full spectrum of personal injury work. He is able to undertake Multi-track instructions covering all areas. Jonathan recognises the importance of a practical application to be applied to a case based on its given factual matrix. As with clinical negligence, Jonathan is able to provide clear and instructive advice form the outset of a claim all the way through to resolution, whether that be through conciliatory measures, by way of JSM or otherwise, or at court itself. Jonathan has a particular interest in claims involving sporting injury, and has been recognised for this by the Legal 500.

Jonathan is the representative for the North Eastern Circuit on the Inner Temple Bar Liaison Committee, the governing body for Barristers for the Inn.
