Senior Family Law Clerk

Salary circa £65,000 per annum

An exciting opportunity has arisen to become the new Senior Family Clerk to this successful set.
The Family Team of barristers at Dere Street is one of the largest and busiest teams on circuit comprising over 60 counsel, nearly a third of whom are ranked in the directories as leading juniors. A number of practitioners are appointed as Recorders, Deputy District Judges and Assistant Corners demonstrating the calibre of the practitioners within the group.
The successful candidate will be an experienced and dynamic individual with relevant clerking experience. A proven ability to work effectively and collaboratively with barristers, clients and the clerking team in order to continue to grow and manage this well-established team is essential.
The Senior Family Clerk will report to the Head Clerk and will be required to actively manage a team of experienced clerking staff. Candidates will be expected to demonstrate that they have the capability to meet the day to day demands of managing a busy and successful team of barristers including:
• An understanding of the family law legal market, business development and motivated to implement marketing initiatives
• Possessing excellent relationship management skills and the ability to motivate a team of clerks and barristers to deliver an exceptional service
• Knowledge of practise management including the ability to develop and support individual barristers practice and career objectives
• To develop positive working relationships with current and prospective professional clients in order to continue to deliver outstanding client service
• Experience of diary and practice management, fees negotiation, knowledge of fees procedures and regulatory requirements

Administrative Assistant
Dere Street Barristers are a thriving multi-disciplinary set of over 100 barristers and 30 staff.
We are seeking a highly organized Administrative Assistant to join our team in York. In this position you will play a crucial role to assist in the smooth operation of our office. This is a full-time position with opportunities for growth and advancement. You will be required to work in Chambers Monday to Friday 9.00am – 5.30pm.
Salary will be up to £26,227.50 per annum depending on age and experience.
Benefits include; Contributory Pension Scheme, Death in Service Benefit, Cycle to work Scheme, travel expenses if required to work at other locations.
Job Description
· Answering telephone calls, transferring to appropriate recipient and taking messages
· Greeting members of Chambers, staff and clients
· Opening and sorting post and any other deliveries, printing, photocopying and other general admin tasks
· Sifting and sorting of clerks email inbox and forwarding emails to required person or department
· Maintaining stationery levels and placing stationery orders
· Allocating conference rooms on the computer diary
· Making refreshments for conferences and visitors and arranging catering for meetings
· Ensures the cleanliness and tidiness of Reception, Conference rooms and public areas to which clients have access
· Running fee reports and payment summaries and emailing them to relevant recipients both on a scheduled and an ad hoc basis
· Chasing legal aid certificates and other documents required for billing of cases
· Assisting fees team processing and uploading fee claims.
· Taking the post to post box, occasional hand delivering documents to the Court and Solicitor and running errands.
· Assisting in the organizing of any events
· Maintain levels of confidential waste sacks and arrange collections of the same.
· Log and report any premises problems and arrange for trades people to attend for urgent repairs and routine maintenance
· Assisting with any other duties requested by line manager, barristers and other staff
