Chambers extends a warm welcome to our new pupils.

Calum McNicholas graduated with a first-class degree in law and an Outstanding on the Bar Professional Training Course. He received the Linda Sykes Memorial Prize for ranking first in his cohort, and was one of two students admitted to the Northumbria Bar Course Honour Roll. He also received the Middle Temple Certificate of Honour for outstanding performance on the BPTC.  

In the period between Bar School and commencing pupillage, Calum worked as an in-house advocate for DWF LLP and volunteered for the North East Law Centre.

Calum will join us in October 2022 as a Common Law Pupil under the supervision of Mr Michael Cahill. 


Holly Hickin, graduated from the University of York with a 2:1 in LLB (Hons).

Holly was awarded an Inner Temple Exhibition Award and the Paul Methven Scholarship from the Inner Temple in 2019.

Completing her BPTC at the University of Law in Leeds, Holly graduated with a Very Competent and a Masters in Law (Bar Practice) with Distinction.

Following the BPTC, Holly worked as an RTA Litigator undertaking personal injury claims.

Holly will join us in October 2022 as a Civil Specialist Pupil under the supervision of Mr Adam Mugliston.


Rachel Kelly graduated from Newcastle University with a 2:1 LLB Law and European Legal Studies degree, having spent one year studying in Italy at the University of Trento. She was the president of the Newcastle University Law Society where she won an award for her contribution to inclusivity. She undertook the Bar Practice course at Northumbria University and graduated with distinction. 

After completing the BPC Rachel worked as a paralegal for Norton Rose Fulbright and a legal assistant on the CEDAW Peoples Tribunal before becoming a Crown Court Clerk in Newcastle.  

Rachel will join us in October 2022 as a Common Law Pupil, under the supervision of Mr Richard Hermann.


Molly Mcnestry, graduated from Newcastle University with a First-Class Law LLB Honours Degree and received an Inner Temple Exhibition Award Scholarship before undertaking the Bar Course at Northumbria University (Very Competent).

In between completion of the Bar Course and obtaining pupillage, Molly worked as a Mental Health Advocate, providing advocacy support for vulnerable adults under the Deprivation of Liberty Safeguards (DOLs). She later worked as a County Court Advocate, representing clients in a number of civil matters and appearing in front of both District and High Court Judges across the country. 

Molly will join us in October 2022 as a Common Law Pupillage under the supervision of Miss Elizabeth Lugg. 


Haris Simpson will commence a family law specialist pupillage in October 2022 under the supervision of Miss Susan Boothroyd.

In the years prior to commencing pupillage, Haris worked in child protection legal teams within north-eastern local authorities. Haris has experience of conducting complex casework through which he gained an appreciation for how a persuasive case is built from the earliest stages. 

Haris formerly managed a caseload of private and public law matters and is therefore particularly well-placed to understand the burdens borne by instructing solicitors and lay clients alike.
