Jillian Newton – Pupil
Jillian Newton is a specialist criminal pupil under the supervision of Rachael Landin
Jill studied law in Liverpool and the BPTC in Manchester.
She began her career as a legal advisor working on the Hillsborough Inquest. Jill worked alongside the Home Office in disclosure of complex and sensitive forensic pathology reports and dealt with witness management.
Following conclusion of the Inquest Jill worked for the General Medical Council advocating at Medical Practitioner Tribunal hearings. Later, she went on to represent South Manchester NHS Trust at Inquests.
Jill furthered her experience within this area as an advisor to the Chair of the Public Inquiry into the Manchester Arena bombing, advising on intelligence and security disclosure. Jill worked closely with the Police and government agencies ensuring streamlined disclosure of sensitive documents to Core Participants and assisted daily at the Inquiry.
Building on her experience at the Arena Inquiry Jill joined the Force Intelligence Bureau at Merseyside Police. Working in covert intelligence Jill managed intelligence processes and disclosure to the criminal courts and acted as Force witness on intelligence and surveillance matters before the court. She dealt with and advised officers on the often-complex PII process and JR proceedings.
Throughout her career Jill has enjoyed the opportunity to train outside agencies and has provided vulnerable witness training to Interested Parties to Inquiries and complex training surrounding intelligence and surveillance under RIPA to both the Police and CPS.
Jill moves to York for pupillage with her two dogs, Hugo and Bella.
