Jessica Barrowman
Jessica gained significant experience as a family law solicitor, admitted in 2007 and a member of the children’s panel for several years prior to converting to the Bar. During this phase in her career, she gained extensive experience covering all aspects of family law within private practice including more complex children act matters where allegations of domestic abuse are made and separate representation of children is required. It was also during this time Jess developed and honed her skill for combining an empathetic manner with assertive and pragmatic legal advice.
Prior to joining the independent Bar here in Chambers Jess was in-house counsel at a busy specialist family law firm with particular emphasis on public law children This provided Jess with extensive experience including all aspects of case management, drafting and advocacy in wide-ranging and complex public law proceeding involving allegations of harm and abuse; secure accommodation order applications and proceedings including deprivation of liberty, discharge applications, adoption applications and cases involving child exploitation.
Whilst predominantly concentrating on public law during her time at the firm Jess also gained experience in private law children matters including those centred on allegations of parental alienation. She has experience across multiple levels of court, including the High Court.
In addition to her exceptional client care, her prior professional experience has given Jess an understanding of the pressure solicitors work under and is always happy to discuss cases with solicitors before and after hearings including on an informal basis prior to instruction.
