A terrified woman was forced to have sex with a violent and unstable thug to save the life of a man she was out on a first date with.

Prosecutor Jane Waugh told the court in a desperate bid to save the man’s life the courageous victim had endured the sickening ordeal.

The court heard the attack started when the couple were walking home together after their first date in the summer of 2021, when they heard shouting behind them as they approached a bypass near the University metro station.

Miss Waugh said: ‘Unprovoked and without warning the defendant launched himself at the man and punched him a number of times.

Sean Robinson, 18, admitted assault and rape.

Lorraine Mustard, defending, said Robinson understands the trauma he caused that day, is remorseful for it and added: ‘He accepts he’s ruined their lives.’

Miss Mustard said Robinson had a difficult childhood and spent time in the care system but has ‘hope’ for a better future.

The Judge said Robinson is ‘dangerous’ and sentenced him to five years in prison with an extended three-year licence period, with sex offender registration and a restraining order to protect the victims for life.
