November 2, 2026

Robert White delivered a lecture to postgraduate and doctoral students at Newcastle University on the past, present and future of labour and employment law. Beginning with the Factory Act 1833 and the Industrial Revolution, the lecture traced the development of employment protections to the present day, before examining the contemporary challenges posed to employment law by technology. It concluded by considering how the law might respond in an increasingly turbulent geopolitical landscape.
