Nick Peto retires after almost 40 years in Chambers

January 8, 2024

All members of Chambers and staff join in congratulating Nick Peto on his retirement from Chambers after 37 years clerking service.

Nick Peto joined Chambers in 1986 when it was still based at 51 Westgate Road, Newcastle and Brian Bell was Senior Clerk. Nick was part of the team that moved Chambers to our current premises on Broad Chare over 30 years ago; throughout he has been a dedicated, loyal and valued member staff.

Further to his day-to-day clerking duties, Nick has for many years been a leading part in the machine that has fixed the criminal lists at the Crown Court at Newcastle and Durham, liaising constructively and courteously with the court, clerks at other sets of chambers and members of the solicitors’ profession. His understanding of the art of listing and ability to resolve listing difficulties coolly and fairly is second to none; many in our Chambers and beyond are grateful for his care and attention in contributing to the smooth running of the courts and their diaries. Nick will be sorely missed at work by his many friends in Chambers and in the wider legal community in the North East.

I am sure that everyone who knows Nick will join with all of us in Chambers in wishing him and Tracey a long, healthy and happy retirement together.
