Michael Cahill successfully defended 5 defendants accused of being members of an Organised Crime Group by Northumbria Police. The applications were brought by the Police under s34 Policing and Crime Act 2009 and if successful the injunctions would have imposed limitations on the defendants’ rights of assembly; would have required them to register vehicle registrations and mobile phone numbers and limited their movement around geographical areas patrolled by the force.
Michael successfully had the proceedings dismissed at the conclusion of the Police’s case on the basis that the evidence adduced by the Police did not demonstrate that the Defendants had been involved in gang related violence or gang related drug dealing activity.
