Julie Barrett

February 15, 2016

5th October 1967 – 11th February 2016

At 6.20am on 11th February our colleague and friend Julie Barrett passed away at her home. Her devoted husband, Andy and her precious dogs, Molly and Tamla, were by her side. She was 48 years old. Julie was diagnosed with cancer in December 2013 and from that date fought courageously against her illness.

Julie joined Chambers in October 2002 as a fees clerk. In August 2010 she was promoted to senior fees clerk. During her time in chambers she pursued further education and obtained an accounting qualification. Julie was always professional and diligent in her work and had an incredible ability to make the task at hand appear so much easier than it actually was. Not only was Julie a truly accomplished fees clerk but she had that wonderful personality that equipped her to undertake her tasks in a calm but assured manner. Julie was incredibly courteous to all those who worked with her.

Of course, there was the personal side to Julie that we all experienced at sometime whilst she was in Chambers with us. She was without doubt a very popular member of the team. There was rarely an occasion when Julie would miss an opportunity for lunch with her colleagues. Social events with her friends and colleagues would invariably result in a ‘little’ wine being tasted by her.

We will all miss Julie enormously. The sadness that has desended upon all of us who worked closely with Julie will gradually diminish but we will never forget her.

We will all miss entering the fees clerk’s room to be greeted by a smile from Julie invariably followed by some quick witted observation pertinent to the topic of the moment.

Our condolences and thoughts are with Andy and Julie’s family.

Julie’s funeral will take place on Monday 29th February, 1.30pm at St Aidan’s RC Church, Station Road, Ashington.
