Dere Street’s Pupil Deck
September 22, 2025
It won’t be long now until we welcome our 5 new pupils, Samantha Herman, Lydia Gibson, Lidia Beqiraj, Robert White and Amelia Taylor. The pupils will soon be commencing their pupillages on the 29 of September 2025 and each week, leading up to their start, we have been introducing each of them individually.
This week we introduce our final new pupil, Family Specialist, Samantha Herman.
Sam initially studied French and Russian at the University of London before completing a law conversion and LPC in Leeds.
She qualified as a Solicitor in 2020 and has since practiced at a large, local high street firm. She initially specialised in Criminal Law and obtained Police Station Accreditation, allowing her to represent clients at the police station on arrest.

In more recent years, she has specialised in Family Law, taking a particular interest in Care Proceedings. Sam has significant experience in acting as litigator for parents Care Proceedings cases. She is Children’s Panel Accredited which means that she also has experience representing children of all ages in complex proceedings. She regularly undertook her own court advocacy as a Solicitor and is looking forward to building on this in her role as a Barrister. Given her experience, Sam is well-equipped to assist vulnerable clients at difficult times.
As a Teesside local, Sam can usually be found running in the North Yorkshire Moors and has completed a number of ultra-marathons. Sam’s pupillage will be under the supervision of Ravi Randhawa.
