Dere Street's Pupil Deck - Dere Street Barristers

We are looking forward to our 5 new pupils, Hawa Jogi, Jessica Noble, Zackeray Fixter, Laura Peto
and Jillian Newton commencing their pupillage on 30th of September 2024. Each week, leading up to their start, we shall be introducing each of them individually.

The limelight this week goes to Jillian Newton – Criminal Specialist Pupil

Jill studied law in Liverpool and the BPTC in Manchester. She began her career in regulatory law working for the General Medical Council and later South Manchester NHS Trust. Jill then moved into inquests and public inquiries and worked on the Hillsborough Inquest, IICSA and the Manchester Arena Inquiry where she was an adviser to the Coroner on issues surrounding intelligence and security.

Jill joins Chambers from Merseyside Police, where she worked within covert intelligence.

Jill is excited for the challenges of pupillage, but also looks forward to exploring York, where she will be based with her dogs Hugo and Bella.
