October 29, 2024
(1948 – 2024)
Members of Chambers and staff were saddened to learn of the death of our friend and colleague David Mason last weekend after a period of illness.
David had a very long and successful life in the law. After completing a law degree at Nottingham University in 1970. He completed his solicitors’ finals in 1972. In 1984 he transferred to the Bar. He also became a qualified mediator and arbitrator.
He had wide legal experience before developing his specialism in employment and discrimination law. He also had a particular interest in medical regulation. David described himself as “pugnacious” advocate but he also had a keen sense of humour which was appreciated by his friends in the law.
David was highly respected for his learning, skill and commitment to his clients who knew they had a champion looking after their interests. His qualities were recognised and reflected by his past appointments as an Employment Judge, a Coroner and as a legal advisor to various professional regulators including the General Medical, Dental and Optical Councils.
David was also a Panel Member of the Disability Rights Commission which he was well qualified for as person who suffered the polio virus as a child.
We send our sincere condolences to David’s family and friends.
