Elizabeth Lugg
Elizabeth is a family practitioner with over 30 years experience in family work. Elizabeth accepts instructions in the full range of public law work, including care and DOLS cases. She has developed a keen interest in FII cases and non-accidental injury including complex medical cases. Other cases have involved sexual abuse, serious neglect and emotionally harmful behaviours. Elizabeth represents Local Authorities parents and children.
Elizabeth has been consistently ranked in the LAA as a Leading Junior, most recently in the 2026 publication.
Elizabeth also accepts instruction in complex private law cases mainly involving removal from the jurisdiction (appearing F (Children) [2010] EWCA Civ 1428) and cases involving allegations of parental alienation.
Elizabeth is a qualified child arbitrator and intends to develop this area of practice in the future. She has been appointed a Recorder in family work.
Elizabeth has a reputation as a tenacious barrister who does not demur from a fight. She is approachable and empathetic and always well prepared. She is highly respected by colleagues and the judiciary.
Having been both mum and a step-mum, Elizabeth brings to her cases a first- hand knowledge of the challenges of parenting birth and non-birth children. She is pragmatic and will always seek out practical solutions to the vast range of family problems that are presented within her family law work.

Elizabeth is the FLBA regional chair for the Newcastle and Teesside area and is also active in the local family justice board where she seeks to improve the experience of clients, professionals and of course the subject children in the local family justice system.
