Laura Peto secures conviction for man caught attempting sexual communication with a child online

A jury delivered a unanimous guilty verdict after a three-day trial at Newcastle Crown Court for a man caught asking a 14-year-old girl to meet with him for sex. The girl, who was in fact an undercover police decoy, received graphic sexual messages from the defendant as well as an invitation to come to his house. Over message, the defendant claimed it would be ‘worth the jail time for’. In court, he denied believing it was a teenager and claimed he knew it was a decoy from the start. His account did not hold up under cross examination, and the jury delivered a guilty verdict the following day.
