Rachael Landin and John Hatton visit York St John University – 14 April 2026

April 22, 2026

Rachael Landin and John Hatton gladly accepted an invitation from Gurojosh Roth, lecturer in law, and solicitor and supervisor at York St John Law Clinic, to deliver lectures on life at the Bar to second year law students.

Rachael and John provided students with details of their respective journeys to the Bar, as well as what to expect from life in practice.

Rachael has over 18 years’ experience of the criminal justice system and family law. Prior to practising as a barrister, Rachael worked for law firms in both England and Australia, appearing in civil, administrative, and mental health tribunals and representing suspects at the police station. Her experience provided a solid foundation to life at the Bar.

John has 7 years’ experience at the Bar, the catalyst for which was his former career as a journalist. As a journalist, John spent considerable time in the courtroom, reporting on complex cases and making them accessible to the public. John’s interest in legal proceedings led him to embark upon the law conversion course, winning the Blackstone’s National Criminal Advocacy competition along the way. After completing a common law pupillage, John specialised in family law.

Rachael and John were pleased to meet the students and wish them well in their future careers.
