Retirements from the Bar

April 15, 2025

All members of Chambers and staff join in wishing our friends and colleagues Geoff Hunter and Angus Taylor all the very best on their retirements from the Bar.

Geoff Hunter was called to the Bar in 1979 and became a member of Westgate Chambers on Westgate Road, then at Broad Chare Chambers before joining York Chambers which later merged with Broad Chare to form Dere Street. He is a very experienced member of the family team. Geoff’s consistently cheerful good humour has made him a very popular figure in the wider legal community in the North East and beyond. Geoff has many interests away from work and no-one doubts that he will enjoy his retirement.

Angus came to Dere Street after he was called to the Bar in 2011. Before that he enjoyed a variety of careers in the Royal Marines, a Police Officer, a solicitor (admitted 2007) and as in-house counsel with Local Authorities. Angus has been a member of Dere Street criminal and family teams. He is looking forward to retirement at his home in Northumberland.
