Specialist Pupils’ secondment to the CPS
March 26, 2025
As part of their specialist criminal pupillage within Chambers, Jillian and Laura undertook a short secondment to the CPS to enable them to have a direct insight into the role of the CPS in respect of both Magistrates and Crown Court work. During their secondment they spent time in the Magistrates Court including the Youth Court, Crown Court and at CPS Headquarters. They also spent time with the RASSO team.

“The week gave me great insight into the work of the CPS. Everyone I met was so welcoming and really supportive. A huge thank you to everyone. It was fantastic to see the different teams and how they work in really driving justice forward and the support offered to witnesses and victims. Highly recommended for any future pupils interested in prosecuting.” Jillian Newton

“I found the experience to be helpful as it allowed me to gain valuable insight into the inner workings of the CPS and the process by which a case comes to court. As my experience thus far had mainly been defence, it was good to see cases in the magistrates’ court from a prosecution viewpoint.” Laura Peto
All our pupils have undertaken the CPS induction and shadowing thereafter in respect of agency/session work within the Magistrates Court with a view to accepting any available instructions when they embark upon their soon to be 2nd six.
We take recruitment seriously to ensure that we recruit the best candidates. As a result of the investment that we make in our recruitment process, as well as in pupillage itself; Chambers prides itself that in the last 13 years, all pupils recruited have secured tenancy with us!
