Dere Street’s Pupil Deck
September 16, 2024
We are looking forward to our 5 new pupils, Hawa Jogi, Jessica Noble, Zackeray Fixter, Laura Peto
and Jillian Newton commencing their pupillage on 30th of September 2024. Each week, leading up to their start, we shall be introducing each of them individually.
The limelight this week goes to Laura Peto – Criminal Specialist Pupil
Laura studied law at the University of York and completed her BPTC with a joint LLM in Leeds. During her time in education, she co-founded and ran the University Mock Trial Society, as well as competing in various advocacy competitions such Barfight and Advocate of the Year. In 2021 she won the annual Roses Moot, representing her university.
Since moving back to Newcastle, Laura has undertaken various roles within big firms such as Clyde and Co and Kennedy’s, expanding her knowledge of multiple areas of law. She was part of a team handling multi-million pound claims within the sector of specialist liability, including travelling to transcribe lengthly and complex criminal trials to assist the civil team. As well as this, she also carried out valuable research in the field of asbestos-related personal injury. Additionally, Laura has worked as supervisor of a restaurant, and is well versed in handling enquiries of customer service related matters.
As a Newcastle local, Laura enjoys the social and cultural aspects of the city, from runs along the quayside to going out with friends. She can usually be found spending time with her family and rabbit, shopping, or in Greggs.
Laura’s pupillage will be under the supervision of Andrew Walker
