Success for Liam O’Brien as the jury return unanimous not guilty verdicts in Darlington double stabbing.
June 13, 2024
The Defendant was accused of two counts of wounding with intent to cause grievous bodily harm. Having been attacked by two other men in the home of an ex-partner, he armed himself with a kitchen knife. Shortly thereafter, when he was set upon for a second-time, he used the kitchen knife to defend himself. One of the attackers sustained fourteen knife wounds to the head and body and was left with life threatening injuries. The second received multiple knife wounds to the face, head and body. The case involved the deployment of the so-called householder defence concerning the use of force in self-defence within a residence.
The jury returned unanimous not guilty verdicts on all counts after a trial which lasted for seven days.
